NEW DELHI: Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar raised the matter of resumption of sporting links between India and Pakistan during talks with her senior Indian counterpart, S M Krishna, here on Wednesday.
According to sources, the 34-year-old minister pointed out that cricket and hockey, in which both countries have fanatical supporters, could be a source for strengthened ties.
“She asked that sporting links in these two sports should be revived,” said an official.
India had cut all sporting links with Pakistan after the 2008 November attacks.
In another ‘sporting’ remark, Khar said that Krishna had pointed to her that at the opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games last year, the Pakistani contingent had got the biggest cheers after the Indian side.
“It is in this spirit we need to sustain the dialogue process,” said Khar.
