SP fields Imam’s son-in-law

LUCKNOW: Despite reservations and open opposition by Cabinet minister Mohammad Azam Khan, the Samajwadi Party on Thursday fielded Omar Khan, son-in-law of chief Imam of Jama Masjid Maulana Bukhari, for the legislative council elections in Uttar Pradesh.  

The name of Omar Khan appeared in the list of seven candidates of the party for the elections.

Besides Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, others who will be sent to the council are Ambika Chaudhary, Rajendra Chaudhary, Vijay Yadav, Madhu Gupta, Omar Khan and Naresh Uttam.

Arvind Singh of Ghazipur will be the party’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections. Akhilesh would soon vacate his Kannauj Lok Sabha seat triggering the debate within the party and the family as who would contest election from that seat.
