NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Thursday raided a plastic-making unit in Narela industrial area and rescued 12 child labourers.

At least seven of the rescued are girls aged between 8 and 15 years. All the rescued minors were found working in hazardous conditions as bonded labourers.

“These children were involved in cutting and manufacturing of disposable plastic items. Most of them are from migrant families and were lured by the promise of a better job,” said a senior police official.

The rescued, who hail from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, said they were forced to work for long hours in a stretch. “We start at 8 am and work till 10 pm without break. I was promised a monthly salary of Rs 3,000. But I have not been paid anything till now. These people are very strict,” said nine-year-old Meena (name changed).
