MANGALORE: The Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) reportedly exchanged fire with a group of Naxalites at Panjala Betta near Kuthlur village in Beltangady taluk  during a combing operation on Friday.

Police sources told Express that ANF was tipped off about the movement of suspected Naxalites in the region and had intensified combing operations from Friday. At around 5.30 pm the ANF team intercepted the movement of Naxalites. Shortly after that there was an exchange of fire, but no causalities were reported.

When contacted, IGP (Western Range) Pratap Reddy said that though the ANF had intercepted the movement of the Naxals, it is yet to be ascertained how many were engaged in the firing. “But the combing operation will continue until they achieve success,” he stressed.
