Brahmos to turn hypersonic soon

Indian flagship missile programme Brahmos will be moving from supersonic scale to hypersonic scale to reach speeds of Mach 7. India had entered into a joint venture with Russia to develop hyperscale capabilities, said managing director and CEO of Brahmos programme Shivathanu Pillai, while speaking at the 26th CSIR-NAL foundation lecture on ‘Emerging Aerospace Technologies’.

Brahmos developers were trying to place the missile in various platforms for all the Armed forces, he said.

Stating that they had already started work and trials for the Army, Navy and Air Force versions, he said they would soon deploy their R&D towards building a submarine compatible missile for launch from under water. Laying emphasis on scramjet engine, he said the missile programme were ready to carry out flight tests on the Sukhoi-30 aircrafts. “We are waiting for the modifications of the aircraft to be completed and then flight trials can be carried out,” he added.
