The MMS depicting purported footage ofviolence in Assam, which was in circulation in the city forthe last few days, was bogus, police said in Pune Thursday.

The police also said that no untoward incident had takenplace in the city after attacks on students from the NorthEast on August 8 and 9.

"The voice and the narration in the MMS are clearlyaltered. Now we have confirmed that this MMS is bogus. Peopleneed not panic....The situation in Kondhwa, Pune Camp (wherestudents were attacked) is under control," said PrasadHasabnis, Senior Police Inspector.

There was no threat to people from the North East, headded.

Police have arrested a few men following the attacks.

In Mumbai, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan assuredearlier in the day that protection would be given to studentsfrom the North East, and they need not panic. There were somereports of students fleeing to their home states.

Sunil Kamthan, Station Master, Pune Railway Station, saidthat Railways had arranged two extra coaches for Howra-boundAzad Hind Express.
