Five plead guilty in twin blast case

Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara and four others on Thursday pleaded guilty before a local court for their roles in the 2005 twin blasts at the Satyam and Liberty Cinema here.

Besides Hawara, others convicted in the case were Balwinder Singh, Jaspal Singh, Vikas Sehgal and Jagannath Yadav. However, Hawara could not be released as he has been serving life imprisonment in another case for assassinating former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.

In the twin blasts case, Hawara was charged with harbouring Jaspal and Vikas. The other accused were charged with conspiracy to commit offences against the state, attempt to murder and culpable homicide not amounting to murder under IPC and the Explosives Substance Act.

They were also booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

The court also imposed a fine of `25,000 on each of the accused. The blasts rocked the capital on May 22, 2005, during the screening of the controversial Hindi film - ‘Jo bole so nihaal’ - injuring over 60 people.
