A Delhi court Saturday sent two Zee journalists to two days' police custody, after investigators said they needed to bring them face-to-face with Zee group chairman Subhash Chandra in a Rs.100 crore extortion bid case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ankit Singhla sent the two journalists to police custody till December 10.
Chandra and Zee group's managing director Puneet Goenka are being questioned in connection with the case.
Sudhir Chaudhary, head of Zee News, and Samir Ahluwalia, head of Zee Business, were arrested here Nov 27 on charges of attempting to extort Rs.100 crore from Jindal Power and Steel Ltd. in exchange for not filing news reports linking the firm to the irregular coal blocks allocation.
The Jindal Group filed an extortion complaint against them.
Police booked both the journalists under Indian Penal Code Sections 384 (extortion), 120(b) (criminal conspiracy) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment). Before arresting Chaudhary and Ahluwalia, police also charged them under Section 420 (cheating).
