Ajit Pawar takes charge of finance, power

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Wednesday took charge of finance and power portfolios, which he handled before he resigned in September.

Pawar who was again made the deputy chief minister Dec 7 after he quit after allegations that he was the main culprit in wrongdoings in irrigation projects.

He was cleared of the allegations after a white paper by the state government absolved him of lapses, following which he again joined the ministry.

According to an official in the deputy chief minister's office, Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Monday approved the notification forwarded by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Pawar's portfolios.

Pawar, nephew of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, quit the cabinet Sep 25 after his name figured among the culprits in the irregularities worth Rs.20,000 crore in irrigation projects during his 1999-2009 tenure.
