Victim still critical, say doctors

The 23-year-old gang-rape victim continues to be critical, though internal bleeding which may have triggered multi-organ failure reduced remarkably on Tuesday.

A team of doctors, monitoring her situation at Safdarjung Hospital, said infection partially responded to antibiotic medication and showed signs of improvement but blood infection and bilirubin level remain major concerns.

She is still on ventilator though the ventilator support has been reduced, they said.

She is conscious and communicating and overall lab profile was stable, they said. She was also subjected to psychiatric counselling along with her parents and positively responded to doctors questions.

“She was relatively composed and during the counselling there was no sign of anxiety. She was communicating well and appeared very positive about her future. We also talked to her parents,” the doctors said.
