Home Ministry gets Rs 52,839 crore allocation in 12th Plan

An outlay of Rs 52,839 crore,which is 247 per cent more than the previous plan, has beenproposed for the Home Ministry in the draft 12th Five YearPlan put up before the National Development Council (NDC) heretoday.

The highest Rs 6,841 crore has been allocated forNational Population Register, a comprehensive identitydatabase of every usual resident in the country being preparedby the government.

Rs 3,751 crore has been allocated for modernisation ofpolice forces, Rs 3360 crore for disaster management and

Rs900 crore has been allocated for Crime and Criminal TrackingNetwork and Systems, which will facilitate collection,storage, analysis, transfer and sharing of data of crime andcriminals between all police stations in the country.

"This outlay shows an increase of 247 per cent over theallocation of Rs 15,224 crore in the 11th Five Year Plan," aHome Ministry official said.

Rs 1,874 crore has been kept for modernisation of DelhiPolice, which is being controlled by the Home Ministry.

Rs 890 crore has been earmarked for special industryinitiative scheme, security related expenditure and for reliefand rehabilitation scheme for Jammu and Kashmir.

Rs 651 crore has been allocated for coastal securitiesschemes,

Rs 207.54 crore for Naxal management and Rs 290 crorefor North Eastern states.

There is also a proposal of Mega City Policing with atotal outlay of Rs 432 crore in six cities -- Kolkata, Mumbai,Chennai, Banglore, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.

"The Home Ministry supports various programmes andschemes to strengthen internal security in the country. Italso supports various state governments and Union Territoriesthrough its programmes and schemes," the official said.
