NEWDELHI: CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat on Monday said there was nothing wrong with the party using pictures of Jesus Christ in party posters put up for the ongoing state conference.

“The party has used the pictures of great revolutionaries earlier also. There is nothing wrong with that. Those who are creating a controversy out of it are doing so with ulterior motives,” Karat said. When asked about the controversial poster on Last Supper, CPM leaders said that the poster was removed by party itself when the inappropriateness was pointed out.

The poster had shown US President Barack Obama dining with Indian political leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. It also said, ‘This is the last supper of the bourgeoisie, the only hope is Marxism’. It had created quite a controversy with Christian leaders demanding apology from the party.
