MUMBAI: Mumbai Police Tuesday filed a chargesheet against woman journalist Jigna Vora in connection with the murder of senior scribe Jyotirmoy Dey who was shot dead in June last year.

"We have filed a supplementary chargesheet against Vora today (Tuesday) in the MCOCA court. In the chargesheet, we have listed enough evidence against her to make a case," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime branch) Deven Bharti told IANS.

Bharti said the chargesheet runs into 1,400 pages and the evidence gathered by the crime branch has been mentioned in detail.

Working as a deputy bureau chief with a Mumbai daily, Vora was arrested Nov 25 last year in connection with the June 11 killing of Dey, the editor (Special Investigations) at Mid-Day.

Mumbai Police had in December last year filed a chargesheet against 12 accused in the case. However, the name of Vora, who was arrested in November was not included in the chargesheet.

The earlier chargesheet filed in the special MCOCA court runs to 3,055 pages and has described in detail the role of 10 men allegedly involved in Dey's murder. Fugitive don Chhota Rajan has also been named in the chargesheet. However, police have mentioned that Rajan and another accused Nayan Singh are still absconding.

Sources in the crime branch say police have enough reason to support the theory that it was Vora's professional rivalry with Dey that claimed his life.

According to police, Vora had allegedly provided Dey's mobile number and his exact location to absconding mafia don Rajan.
