NEW DELHI: The CBI’s key witness, Asservatham Achary was on Monday accused of falsely deposing against former Telecom Minister A Raja during his cross examination in the 2G spectrum case trial. Raja’s counsel Sushil Kumar told his client’s former aide Achary that he chose to become a false witness for the CBI because Raja did not promote him in politics. Raja also alleged that the CBI had put pressure on Achary to depose falsely against him as the investigating agency failed to find anything to ‘link’ him with other accused in the case. “It is wrong to suggest that I became a witness in this case only when the CBI could not find anything to connect Raja with other accused persons. It is wrong to suggest that I was under pressure of CBI because of the possession of assets disproportionate to my known sources of income,” Achary told Special CBI judge O P Saini while denying the allegations.
