JAIPUR/ NEW DELHI: A CBI team scouring the Rajiv Gandhi link canal looked for the remains of the missing nurse from Rajasthan Bhanwari Devi. The water flow into this canal was stopped by the Rajasthan administration to help the CBI find material evidence.

Sources said bones, a few bangles and iron rods were found by divers which will now be sent for forensic examination to check if they were of Bhanwari's.

Based on confessions of the accused, CBI sources say they have completed the entire chain of events leading upto Bhanwari's killing.

CBI sources say Bhanwari willingly went to Bilwara with the accused Sahi Ram, Shahabuddin and Sohan Ram.

As per the plan, Shahbuddin and Sohan Lal were to hand over Bhanwari to the Bishna Ram gang to eliminate her but while Sohan and Shahbuddin waited for Bishna, Bhanwari reportedly got suspicious and tried to escape.

Fearing that her screams could attract attention Shahbuddin and Sohan Lal allegedly strangulated her.

Her body was later handed over to Bishna who along with his gang members used a bat to first break her bones and then burnt her body.

As per Bishna Ram and Kailsah Jhakhar's alleged confession, Bhanwari's body was then thrown into the Rajiv Gandhi canal in a bid to destroy all evidence.

Bishna Ram has allegedly confessed that before burning Bhanwari , they tried to destroy her watch and having failed to do so they threw the watch also in the canal. It is this watch that the CBI is trying to find.

Sources said since chances of finding Bhanwari's body are slim, the watch could be a clinching evidence.

The CBI will continue to hunt for possible clues in this canal even on Saturday but the investigating team is upbeat about finding enough evidence before March 2 to file a fool-proof chargesheet against main accused Rajasthan Minister Mahipal Maderna and Malkhan Singh - charging them with the murder of Bhanwari Devi.
