Armyman slain in Kashmir

In the third incident of its kind in the past five days, an Army trooper was killed while another was wounded on Saturday as unidentified terrorists shot them from a point-blank range in South Kashmir’s Pampore township, about 20 km from here.

The troopers of 50 Rashtriya Rifles were attacked in the afternoon when they were withdrawing money from an ATM at Kadlabal on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway.

The police identified the deceased as Sepoy Deepak Kumar. He received a bullet in his neck and died at a hospital in Pampore.

His colleague, Constable Trilok Nath, was shifted to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, for further treatment. Sources said his condition was stable.

The firing incident triggered panic in the area, which was later sealed by security forces. The terrorists fled immediately after the incident.

Pertinently, this is the third such attack carried out by terrorists in the region in the past few days. In South Kashmir districts of Pulwama and Kulgam, terrorists on June 3 had separately shot dead two cops.
