Bengal Congress frowns at Mamata’s ‘petty politics’

Mamata has proposed Krishna Bose, the niece of Subhash Chandra Bose, as Trinamool’s Vice-Presidential candidate

The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) has flayed TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee for proposing Krishna Bose as the candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential poll.

In a posting on Facebook, the WBPCC said on Monday that Didi was indulging in “petty politics” over Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Incidentally, Krishna Bose, a former Lok Sabha MP, is the INA stalwart’s niece and Mamata had zeroed in on her after West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi refused to enter the fray.

The WBPCC alleged that Mamata had forgotten Bose during the Rajya Sabha polls of 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2012. “After Krishna Bose lost the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, Mamata didn’t propose her name for the Rajya Sabha polls in 2005. Instead she proposed Swapan Bose; maybe she thought he was related to Netaji. Even in the Rajya Sabha polls of 2006 she forgot Krishna Bose’s name. In the Rajya Sabha polls of 2011, she remembered Srinjoy Bose; maybe she thought he too was related to Netaji. A few days ago even in the 2012 Rajya Sabha polls she forgot Krishna Bose when she sent four MPs to the Rajya Sabha.”

Further, the state Congress said Didi had started a “political game” surrounding Krishna. “Now for the vice-presidential poll she suddenly remembered Krishna Bose’s name. The person whom she had forgotten for 8 years, who wasn’t deserving of even a Rajya Sabha seat, today a political game has been started over that same respected person who is over 80 years old,” the FB post quoted Abdul Mannan, chairperson of the WBPCC media committee as saying.

Meanwhile, Krishna on the other hand is delighted  with the development. “I am happy that they (TMC) proposed my name and that of Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the UPA meeting. Now that Hamid Ansari’s name has been declared as the UPA candidate, TMC has to decide whether it will contest. My contesting the poll for the Vice-President is therefore a hypothetical question,” she said.
