Top Maoist leader held in Bengal

Top Maoist squad leader Bikram alias Arnab Dam has been arrested in West Bengal, police said Tuesday.

Accused of being involved in many incidents of violence, the security forces were looking for Bikram for long, they said.

"Bikram alias Arnab Dam has been arrested from a jungle near the Purulia-Jharkhand border. He is suspected to be involved in many violent activities. He was a commander of the Communist Party of India-Maoist in charge of the Ayodhya squad," a top police officer of the district said.

Bikram's arrest, police say, may yield valuable information regarding Maoist activities in the state.
