HISAR: The standoff between Jats and Haryana government over the arrests made during the agitation to press for job reservation under OBC quota tonight appeared headed towards a resolution with the authorities deciding to release the detenus.
After a marathon three-hour talks held between thejats, khap members and representatives of the state government here, Haryana's Chief parliamentary Scretary Dharamveer Singh said the jats have been assured that all those members of the community, who had been arrested during the course of the agitation, would be released as per the provision of the law.
Dharamveer, along with Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's OSD M S Chopra and fortmer Hisar MP Jai Parkash, held talks with the jats in a bid to resolve the deadlock.
He said jats had also been assured that Haryana government would forward the recommendation of the state backweard class commission's report on reservation for jats to the Centre as soon as it receives the same.
It has been decided that the youth killed in the alleged police firing during the agitation this week would be creamated tomorrow, said Dharamveer.
The body of the youth killed in alleged police firing this week continued to be placed besides the railway tracks.
Sandeep was killed in clashes between police and protesters on March 6.
The Jats have virtually laid a seige in this district and blocked several roads.
Hooda asked the people of the state to maintain peace, mutual brotherhood and harmony and not submit to any provocation.
In an appeal issued at Chandigarh tonight, Hooda said all citizens had the right to voice their aspirations but in a peaceful manner and within the limits of the law of the land.
"All problems can be solved only by dialogue as violence will never help", Hooda said.
"Protection of life and property of every citizen is the duty of the state government and nobody should take the law into his or her hands and not let such divisive forces, who want to destroy the social fabric of the state, to succeed in their selfish ulterior motives", the Chief Minister said.
