NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to the Maran brothers - Dayanidhi and Kalanidhi - in connection with its probe in the Aircel- Maxis deal.
ED sources said that the focus of the questioning would be on the investments running into `550 crore made by the Malaysia based- Maxis group of companies in the Sun TV network between 2007 and 2008.
Some of these investments were routed through Maxis’s subsidiaries companies located Mauritius.
It is learnt that a Sun TV senior official’s statement was recorded last week after being asked to furnish details of bank statements, company details, source of funds, etc.
The directorate had registered a criminal case against the Maran brothers and others under the PMLA alleging that the Maxis group investments in the Sun TV Networks fell under the category of “crime-proceeds” as it was earned as a ‘quid pro-quo’ for their active role played in the controversial Aircel-Maxis deal.
