NEW DELHI: Unmindful of the pulls and pressures from the state leaders, the Congress High Command on Sunday finalised the  candidates for biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha with its own stamp.

The Congress high Command, after several hours of consultations, has announced names of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi and party spokesperson and former Union Minister Renuka Choudhary and senior leader Palwai Goverdhan Reddy from Andhra Pradesh.

Keeping in mind Telangana sentiment, the Congress high command has preferred Goverdhan Reddy and Renuka Choudhary.

Rapolu Anand Bhashar from the Telangana region too got the Congress ticket for RS. Though the party is expected to win four seats in Andhra Pradesh, it is yet to announce the name of a fourth candidate.

Sources said that the party high command would take a final decision on the fourth candidate late in the night since Monday is the last day for the nominations.

As expected , Rajya Sabha deputy chairman KK Rehman Khan has been re-nominated from Karnataka, Praveen Rashtrapal from Gujarat and Shadilal Batra from Harayana.

Satyabrat  Chaturvedi, another retiring member from Uttarakhand, where the party is facing a political crisis, has been nominated from his home state of Madhya Pradesh.

After detailed discussions on the Uttarakhand crisis with Chief Minister Bahuguna, AICC general secretary in-charge for Uttarakhand Chaudhary Birender Singh, Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, political secretary Ahmad Patel and party president Sonia Gandhi have finalised the candidature of Mahendra Singh.

Sources said that the crisis is over in Uttarakhand and there is no threat to the Bahuguna government.
