Underwater tests of the BrahMos missile will take place in December off the eastern seaboard, A Sivathanu Pillai, CEO, BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, said. The tests are being conducted ahead of arming submarines with the underwater version of BrahMos.

The tests will be conducted from a stationary platform and not from subsmarines, Pillai told ‘Express’ during a visit to the BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (BATL) the other day.

“We also hope to have the ground-to-ground version of the missile next year,” he said.

In addition to this, BrahMos also plans to test the air-to-ground version, meant for the Air Force, in 2013, he said.

Recently, BrahMos, considered the fastest operational missile in the world, was tested for a ‘steep dive,’ which is essential for ensuring its reliable operation in mountainous terrain, he said.
