In tit-for-tat, Pakistan Taliban threaten to attack Indians

Worried over the fallout of the execution of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab, India has asked Pakistan to step up security for its High Commission and officials in Islamabad.

Though the official reactions has been relatively muted, the Pakistani Taliban has vowed to avenge the death of Kasab. It has asked for Kasab’s body to be returned, and if not, has threatened to attack Indian interests “at any place”.

In calls made to media representatives in Pakistan, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan spokesperson Ihsanullah Ihsan said his group would target Indians and Indian interests “anywhere” to avenge Kasab’s hanging.

Ihsan further said Indian authorities should hand over Kasab’s body to his family or to the Taliban. On his part, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik told a TV channel that Islamabad will not link the issue of releasing Indian national Sarabjit Singh to Kasab’s execution and there would be no retaliation by Pakistan for it.
