President to tour North-East in April, May

President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to visit the five North-Eastern states in April and May, the Rashtrapati Bhavan has said.

And Pranab will kick off his engagements with a trip to Manipur and Assam from April 15 to 17 during which he will attend the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Adimjati Shiksha Ashram in Imphal.

Besides, he will lay the foundation stone for the SRM State University in Gangtok.

During the second leg of his visit to the region in May, the President will be travelling to Assam, Nagaland and Tripura. And he will present the Asom Ratna award to Mamoni Raisom Goswami on May 13.

His itinerary in Assam includes presenting the Srimanta Shankardev Award to yesteryear Bollywood queen Sharmila Tagore, besides addressing the annual convocation of the Assam University at Silchar.

From there,  Pranab will set off for Nagaland, where he is scheduled to attend the convocation of the Nagaland University at Lumami. On the final leg of his visit, the President will travel to Tripura where he will address a gathering at the National Institute of Technology(NIT) and the Tripura University.
