A private jet, carrying BJP president Rajnath Singh and senior leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, made an emergency landing at the Delhi airport on Monday morning.
It is reported that the nine-seater private plane, carrying the leaders to Bangalore had developed a snag in its auto-pilot system, which forced the pilots to land. Following the incident, the visit was cancelled and Rajnath addressed a rally in the poll-bound Karnataka via video conferencing.
Assembly elections are slated to be held in the state from May 5.
Party general secretary Dharamendra Pradhan and joint general secretary (organisation) V Satish were also onboard.
Sushma tweeted on social networking site Twitter: “Shri Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Dharmendra Pradhan, V Sathish and I were flying to Bangaluru for an election rally. We had flown for about 45 minutes.
“The co-pilot told us that the aircraft had developed a technical snag and we could not go further.”
“On landing, the pilot told us that the auto controls of the aircraft had stopped working. And he flew us back by manual controls. By God’s grace we are all safe,” her tweet added.
