Fadnavis named new Maharashtra BJP chief

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and legislator Devendra G. Fadnavis was Thursday named the new president of the party's Maharashtra unit.

The appointment was made by BJP chief Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, a party statement said.

A lawyer by profession based in Nagpur, Fadnavis replaces Sudhir Mungantiwar, who took charge in April 2010 after former state president Nitin Gadkari was elected the national BJP president.
