PAC indicts Kalmadi for wrongdoings

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday found Suresh Kalmadi guilty of financial irregularities in organizing the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games held at Balewadi in Pune.

The PAC, which tabled its report before the State Assembly, on Wednesday has directed the state government to file a criminal case and submit the Action Taken Report (ATR) in three months.

According to PAC chairman and BJP Legislator Girish Bapat, the organizing committee of the games had illegally retained with itself unspent amount that was given by the state government, among other irregularities.

Kalmadi along with suspended IOC secretary Lalit Bhanot had demanded `32.95 crore as emergency expenses, besides the Rs 425.50 crore already disbursed by the state. The details of expenditure of `25.12cr were not provided to the PAC, said Bapat.
