Will it be a triangular fight for BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, who is planning to contest from the Nagpur constituency in the coming Lok Sabha elections?
Buoyed by the success of Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal against three-time Chief Minister of the Congress Sheila Dikshit in New Delhi constituency, the AAP is likely to field Anjali Damania against Gadkari, sources said.
The name of Damania, state convener of the AAP, cropped up during the state executive meeting held last week here. AAP Maharashtra state secretary Preeti Sharma Menon said: “We had suggested her to consider fighting the elections from Nagpur, where Gadkari is planning to contest. However, nothing has been finalised as Damania is yet to make her mind.”
It was the social activist who first alleged that Gadkari was conniving with the NCP in Maharashtra to commit various scams in the state. Following the charges, Gadkari was forced to quit as BJP chief. Congress MP Vilas Muttemwar would also be in the fray from Nagpur.
