India’s eternal prime minister-in-waiting, the NCP suzerain and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar rarely says or does anything without a reason.

Divining his motives has been a trial for most coalition governments he has been part of. When he publicly expressed his concern on the Telangana quandary and his analysis of the post-2014 elections landscape, it took the Congress by surprise. Pawar is surely a man to be watched in the coming months for there are fears he might raise the Vidarbha statehood pitch.
