Now, Mamata threatens to slap journalists

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s familiar fit of anger came to the fore yet again when she threatened to slap the journalists.

And Didi remark came on Saturday during the ‘Maati Utsav’ (earth fair) being organised by the state government at Panagarh in Burdwan district. Apparently irked by the battery of  photojournalists, who were continuously clicking her pictures, the Chief Minister shouted at them.

“You all are uncivilised. Why are you running all over the place? Just come out from there or I will give you a tight slap,” she said.

TMC leaders, though, said that it was a sisterly rebuke by Didi. The Opposition, however, alleged that it was yet another instance of Mamata’s growing intolerance.

“Multiple failures and governance deficit is making the CM intolerant and increasingly antagonistic. Such incidents have now become routine, showing a heightened level of insecurity,” West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) secretary Om Prakash Mishra told Express.Barely a couple of days ago Mamata had made headlines after she was caught on tape threatening to whip her security guard over his failure to bring her  car on time.

“She is proving her substance. It was shown that she is sober, more responsible, but that was only an image-building exercise. That mask is coming off and her true self is coming to the fore. She is anti-democracy,” said Mohammed Salim, CPM Central Committee (CC) member.Earlier, Didi had asked at a public rally if she should beat up Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
