Sonia cancels Tripura trip

Sonia Gandhi on Sunday cancelled her trip to poll-bound Tripura citing ill health. While Congress president’s two public meetings stand cancelled, newly anointed vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be travelling to the Left bastion on Monday.

Tripura goes to polls on February 14 and Sonia was supposed to address rallies in Agatala and Kumarghat. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who  was scheduled to address a public meeting in Ambassa in Dhalai district on Saturday, had also shelved his trip.

Rahul Gandhi would be campaigning for party candidates and would address rallies in Dharmanagar, Sonamura, Khayerpur and Shantirbazar on Monday.

Chief Minister and CPM Politburo member Manik Sarkar is fighting to retain the state for a third consecutive term.
