Explain child's beating, NHRC tells Uttar Pradesh

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Monday sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh government on the severe beating of a school student by the principal.

The NHRC asked Bulandshahar's senior superintendent of police and district magistrate to submit their report.

The student lost vision in an eye due to the beating.

"A notice has been issued to the district magistrate and SSP of Bulandshahar Uttar Pradesh to submit reports in the matter within four weeks," a statement from NHRC said.

The incident was reported Feb 6.

"The principal gave the boy severe corporal punishment as his father, a daily wage earner, could not pay the school fees in time last month. The victim is a resident of village Pilkhana, police post Diwai, District Bulandshahar. He is reported to have lost vision in his right eye," it said.
