Collector’s transfer riles public in Beed

The people in the Beed district of Maharashtra has come out in full support of   District Collector Sunil Kendrekar, who has been transferred because of his strong stand against the corrupt people.

People, cutting across the socio-economic spectrum, have even declared a bandh in the district on Thursday.

Kendrekar reportedly didn’t allow local politicians and contractors to have their way and squander public money meant for drought relief. With hundreds of crore of money being spent for drought relief and thousands of crore being sought to sustain the drought stricken region till the next monsoon, there was more at stake for corrupt politicians.

Kendrekar rooted out illegal sand excavation from the Godavari river bed. He also cracked down on the mafia running illegal quarries and the agents in the regional transport office.
