CBI analyses more documents in chopper deal case

After initiating preliminary inquiry into thealleged kickbacks in the $750 million/Rs.3,600-crore deal for purchase of 12VVIP helicopters, the CBI Tuesday analysed some fresh documents received fromItaly and planned to question former Indian Air Force chief S.P. Tyagi and 10others.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sources said its officials analysed somemore fresh documents that its team brought to India from Italy.
Officials said the agency's legal department, whose member had gone to Italy,is likely to be made a part of the probe team looking into the helicopter dealwith Britain-based AgustaWestland.
They said the agency is likely to seek more documents about India basedcompanies and also to examine the individuals named in its preliminary enquiry.
The helicopter deal is likely to be discussed in the Rajya Sabha Wednesday.
Besides Tyagi, the inquiry names his cousins Sanjeev alias 'Julie' Tyagi, DocsaTyagi, Sandeep Tyagi, advocate Gautam Khaitan, formerly associated withAeromatrix, and the company's CEO Praveen Bakshi.
Others named in the inquiry include Giuseppe Orsi, the former CEO of Italiandefence major Finmeccanica, Bruno Spagnolini, CEO of AgustaWestland - aBritain-based subsidiary of Finmeccanica - and alleged middlemen Guido RalphHaschke, Karlo Valentino, Ferdinando Gerosa, and Christian Michel.
The firms named are Finmeccanica, AgustaWestland, IDS Infotech Ltd. (India) andAeromatrix India.
Tyagi has categorically denied any involvement in influencing the VVIPhelicopters deal in favour of AgustaWestland. Sanjeev Tyagi had also termedallegations of involvement of his family in the kickbacks as "hundredpercent wrong and baseless".
Bakshi, too, has rubbished claims that the firm had anything to do with thealleged kickbacks in the deal.
