Central Bureau of Investigation onFriday questioned Abhijeet group chairman Manoj Jayaswal inconnection with its probe into the coal block allocation scam.

India's premium investigative agency grilled him onalleged misrepresentation by his companies while applying forcoal blocks, CBI sources said.

They said the agency is also scrutinising documentsprovided by Jayaswals in their defence. The sources said Manoj was asked about alleged infirmitiesfound in his statements recorded in September.

Jayaswal figures as accused in three cases registeredby the agency regarding alleged irregularities in coal blockallocation.

While Manoj, owner of Abhijeet Group, has been named byCBI in three cases of alleged irregularities in coal blockallocation made to AMR Iron and Steel, JAS Infrastructure andJLD Yavatmal Power, his brother Arvind has been named in acase against AMR Iron and Steel.

In the three cases in which the Jayaswals figure, CBIhas slapped allegations of cheating and misrepresentation offacts to grab coveted coal blocks against the companies.

CBI in its investigation has found that the companies haveallegedly given wrong information in their applicationsclaiming they were not in possession of any coal blocks andinflated their net worth to show eligibility for them.

So far, the agency has registered nine cases with regardsto alleged irregularities in connection with allocation ofcoal blocks.
