Srinagar: Hizbul Mujahideen module busted, 4 held

A Hizbul Mujahideen module, allegedly involved in a grenade attack on a police post, was busted in Anantnag district of south Kashmir with the arrest of four persons, police said here today.

"The case of grenade attack on police post Sher Bagh (in Anantnag town) on June 2 has been solved with the arrest of four persons affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen," a police spokesman said.

He said two more members of the module are on the run and efforts are on to nab them.

Giving details, the spokesman said police investigation into the grenade attack on the police post led to the arrest of a suspect, Irshad Ahmad Dar, of Sheerpora village of Anantnag for questioning.

"His questioning revealed that one Mukhtar Ahmad Dar of Dangerpora lobbed the grenade on the directions of Hizbul Mujahidin militant Mubarak Ahmad Wani alias 'Major Saqib' and Fayaz Talak who is presently in Central Jail," the spokesman said.

He said the entire plan of the grenade attack was made at a baker shop. Two more persons - Muzaffer Ahmad Itoo of Muran Pulwama and Amir Syed Salathi of Iqbalabad - were also present.

Dar, Itoo and Salathi were arrested, while efforts are on to apprehend two other members of the module, the spokesman said.
