E-payment for passport appointment

In a first in the country, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) here would launch online payment system for booking appointments at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs). The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has come up with the online payment system to address the issue of non-availability of appointments and to reduce no-shows of applicants.

After reviewing the operations over the last one year, it was seen that several applicants were not turning up at the PSKs despite taking valid appointments. This led to lesser utilisation of the processing capacity of the PSKs and denial of appointments to other genuine applicants, said Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi, Joint Secretary, Passport Seva Project, and Chief Passport Officer, MEA. With the new system, only genuine applicants would book appointments and the number of no-shows would come down.

“Chandigarh has been chosen as one of the pilot RPOs for launching the online payment system starting next week, the date for which will be announced on the website in advance.
