Akhilesh welcomes Nitish to join Third Front

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ahkilesh Yadav has said that he would welcome Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar joining the proposed Third Front alternative to the Congress and the BJP.

Yadav told reporters during his visit to JSS Suttur Mutt here on Friday: ‘’I would like to meet Nitish after consulting my party leaders over the issue.’’

He said there is wide scope for Third Front and predicted political polarisation as the people are against the UPA and the BJP-led NDA coming to power. ‘’The people need the Third Front as alternative at national level,’’ he maintained.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister contended that the Union Government has failed to check inflation and unemployment, which has led to an increase in Naxal activities.

Asked about the High Court pulling up the UP Government for releasing prisoners booked under various charges that will pose threat to the nation, he said: ‘’Our government has taken the decision to release them as many of the Muslims are booked under false cases of terrorist activities.’’  The SP government in the state would strive to convince the court on the issue, he added.
