Western command evacuates 300 civilians

The Western Command based at Chandimandir here has evacuated over 300 civilians affected by the recent floods in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

People from Indiranagar and Mewlipur in Palwal, Faridabad, Kalanaur, Udhri, Lapra, Jathlana and Lal Chhapar in Yamunanagar district of Haryana were moved to safety by the Western Command and Ambala-based ‘2 Corps’.

A major breach was plugged at Daulatpur in Saharanpur by Meerut-based troops of ‘2 Corps’. Work on plugging another two breaches at Tapu Kamalpur on the Yamunanagar-Saharanpur road is progressing.

The Dehra Dun-based Army formation of ‘2 Corps’ distributed thousands of food packets to the stranded pilgrims and people of Kedarnath, Badrinath and Gaurikund in Uttarakhand.

In Himachal Pradesh, local army formation provided humanitarian aid in the form of food, medical care and shelter to over 165 stranded tourists and locals. It also revived BSNL communications at Pooh.

The local formation was coordinating airlift of tourists to safer places.
