Anti-Posco leader arrested

Anti-Posco leader Abhaya Sahu was held on Saturday from the Bhubaneswar Airport for his alleged involvement in several cases, including the March 2 bomb explosion at a Patana village, which claimed three lives.

The arrest comes a day after the Supreme Court asked the Centre to decide on granting Posco preferential access to the Khandadhar iron ore deposits in Sundargarh district.

“Sahu, who was to leave for Coimbatore to attend a meeting, was held from Bhubaneswar Airport by the Jagatsinghpur Police, shortly before the departure of his flight,” informed Paradip sub-divisional police officer Bhabani Shankar Mishra.

It was on a tip off that the police reached the airport and arrested the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) leader. The police, later, produced him before the Court of Junior Magistrate First Class, Kujang, which rejected his bail plea and remanded him in 14 days judicial custody. He was sent to Kujang sub-jail on Saturday noon.
