BJP flays Sibal, Congress for targeting Modi

The BJP has slammed Union Minister Kapil Sibal for his statement that he would soon “expose” Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP advised the Union Minister to  “concentrate on his ministries”.

“The Congress and the Congress-led UPA government has been caught red-handed while indulging in scams, and changing the CBI report on coal scam investigations. Hence it should not point finger at the BJP,” said party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman. The BJP spokesperson added that the ruling party had “made it a habit” to target the Gujarat Chief Minister “out of sheer frustration”.

The BJP also came down heavily on Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh for his swipe at the Supreme Court for making “off-the-cuff observations” on the CBI. “The motivation behind his criticism was the frustration of a loser,” said Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley.

“The ill-advised suggestion made to the judiciary by Singh has come when corruption of UPA government is being investigated by the CBI and monitored by the Supreme Court; and it did not come when the SC had ordered monitoring of Gujarat riots cases,” Arun Jaitley said. “The CBI gets belittled when it bends before political pressure and conducts a pliable investigation. As the Court discovered this pathetic plight of CBI, its investigation had to be monitored,” he said.

“The order of the Court has indicated that either the government prepares a legislative plan to insulate the CBI or the Court could issue specific guidelines. An independent investigation is the hallmark of our criminal justice system. If the CBI is made more independent, it will not get belittled; but it will attain more strength,” he said.
