Major industrial conglomerates making a beeline for Haryana

Despite its relatively small size, Haryana has been attracting considerable investments from the major industrial houses.

State government sources said that the prospective investors include Lotte (`300 crore), We-Fang (`500 crore), Nestle (` 250 crore), Jaquar (`200 crore), UIDAI (`280 crore), Kyo Bearing (`500 crore), Fujitsu (` 185 crore), EEL (`120 crore), Kerry (`100 crore), SJN Cylinder (`150 crore), Denso (` 500 crore), Panasonic (`1,200 crore), and Reliance Retail (`500 crore).

And some 4,150 entrepreneurs, who have been allotted plots by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation(HSIIDC), is expected to make investments worth around `21,000 crore. Also, an investment of `5,500 crore is envisaged from auto major Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki Motorcycles alone.

Since 2005,the Congress-ruled state has attracted investments worth `63,764 crore including those made in the plots allotted by the HSIIDC in the various industrial estates (`41,656 crore). The break-up includes Indian Oil Corporation’s PX/PTA Project and Refinery Expansion and Naptha Cracker Plant `24,000 crore; Maruti-Suzuki (Gurgaon-Manesar projects) `11,000 crore and RHSL/METCO, Jhajjar `4,500 crore and already operational SEZs’ `3,436 crore.

And work is under way on the 135-km Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, planned on BOT basis at an estimated cost of `1,200 crore, with `630 crore needed for land acquisition.

The proposed ‘Economic Corridor’ would be developed along the expressway. And the extension of the Delhi Metro to Faridabad and Bahadurgarh would require an investment of  `3,281 crore.

Three top priority projects under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) include the Gurgaon-Manesar-Bawal MRTS (`30,000 crore), Global City Project, District Gurgaon (`6,000 crore),  Logistics Hub, and District Rewari  (`3,000 crore).

Significantly, Haryana currently produces two thirds of the passenger cars manufactured in the country, 50 per cent of tractors, 60 per cent of motor cycles and 50 per cent of refrigerators. Around 25 per cent of country’s total production of sanitaryware is also from Haryana.

Also, one out of every four bicycles made in the country rolls out from the factories located here.

The state already has 857 projects with  technical collaboration like the Maruti Udyog Limited, Hero Honda, Modi Alcatel, Escorts, Sony India, VXL India, whirlpool Industries, Wipro Limited, Perfitti India, DCM, Benetton, TDT Copper Limited, Asahi India Safety Glass Etc.
