Amid the drama over IPL arrests, another match was played out — between Delhi police and their Mumbai counterparts. While Delhi police stole the thunder on day one, Mumbai police on Saturday ensured they would get their share of media spotlight by raiding luxury hotel rooms booked in the names of S Sreesanth and his friend-cum-bookie Jiju Janardhanan. This they did hours before a Delhi police team reached here for the same purpose. The police seized laptops and gadgets, among other items reportedly belonging to the duo.

Joint Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy on Saturday said Crime Branch sleuths recovered laptops, iPads, mobile phones and data cards late on Friday from a 5-star hotel in Mumbai, where Sreesanth and Jiju had stayed. A sum of Rs 72,000 in cash, a diary with entries in English and Malayalam and a cricket kit were seized from Sreesanth’s room. Roy said Sreesanth had booked his hotel room individually through Tamarind Tours and Travels. He was put up at the hotel from May 13 till his arrest on May 15. Jiju had also booked himself a room in the same hotel. Police confiscated an iPad, a mobile phone and other belongings from Jiju’s room.
