LPG scheme pushed on as polls near

With less than four months to go for the general elections, Delhi state food and civil supplies minister is putting all his might behind fastening the process to allot free LPG connections, gas stoves and cylinders to 2.5 lakh families residing in Delhi.

The initial deadline for implementing free LPG scheme was December 2012 and so the implementation has already been delayed by five months.With the elections fast approaching, the government does not have a window period to delay its implementation further.

When the scheme was announced in April last year, the government had set a target of distributing 3.56 lakh free LPG connections, which was subsequently scaled down to 2.5 lakh.

Delhi food and civil supplies minister Haroon Yusuf who spoke to Express regarding its free LPG connection scheme said, “We are pushing the free LPG connections scheme with all the resources we have.”
