Local police have decided to book Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi — Congress MLA from Guru har Sahai — for making false accusations that he was assaulted and his personal assistant Naseeb Singh was shot, on May 7.

Director General of Police, Punjab, SS Saini said here, on Monday, that Sodhi, along with his personal assistant will be booked by the police under 182 of CrPC for giving false information to the police that political rivals had attacked Sodhi and also shot his  personal assistant on the leg.

Rana Sodhi had levelled serious allegations against some Akali leaders, belonging to Guruharsahai. He claimed that he was abused and threatened by the leaders, after they intercepted his SUV near Chaupati village, while he was on way to Mamdot and that they pointed a gun at him. The police had already given a clean chit to the accused Akali leaders.

Naseeb Singh had complained that he was thrashed by Akali workers outside the returning officer’s office at Mamdot and a bullet, allegedly fired by Akali leaders, hit him on his thigh.

“We found no evidence of firing at the office of returning officer Mamdot, and the bullet injury was found to be self-inflicted,” said Saini.
