SAD-BJP heading towards clean sweep in Zila Parishad polls

The Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine is heading for a clean sweep in the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti polls with winning 14 Zila Parishad and 130 Block Samiti seats and leading in most of the seats as per the results and trends available till noon Tuesday.

In Zila Parishad elections held on May 19 amid sporadic violence, the SAD-BJP combine candidates have won 14 seats out a total 333 seats in the state whereas 30 candidates had won unopposed earlier, official sources said.

The SAD-BJP combine candidates have won 3 seats out of the total 10 seats in Mohali, 6 out of 10 in Kapurthala, 3 candidates have won and two candidates had earlier elected unopposed out of 21 seats in Patiala, one seat out of 10 in Nawanshehr district and one seat in Faridkot out of total 10 where one candidate was earlier elected unopposed.

In Ropar district the alliance candidates are leading in Takhtgarh and Bharatgarh seats.

In Block Samiti polls, the combine has won 130 seats of the total 2732 seats whereas 231 candidates had won unopposed earlier.

The official said that in Amritsar district the alliance have 11 out of total 176 seats whereas 69 candidates were elected unopposed earlier, in Ferozepur 7 candidates have won out of 107 whereas 2 candidates were elected unopposed.

In Hoshiarpur 20 candidates have won in total 204 seats, in Patiala district alliance has won 47 seats out of 167 seat, in Mansa combine has won 20 seats out of 87 whereas 3 candidates were elected unopposed earlier.

In Moga combine has won 18 out of total 111 seats whereas 9 candidates were elected unopposed earlier, in Nawanshehr 2 out of 88 and 8 out of 99 seats in Fazilka district.

As per the results and trends, the alliance is all set to sweep these polls.
