BJP opposes financial aid to terror suspect's family

BJP today demanded Governor B L Joshi's intervention to stop financial assistance to kin of terror suspect Khalid Mujahid, who died in police custody, saying it was "unjustified".

"A chargesheet was filed against Mujahid. Why is compensation being given to his family?" BJP's chief spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

A delegation led by state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai met the Governor and submitted a memorandum in this regard, Pathak said.

An accused in Faizabad and Lucknow court blasts in 2007, Mujahid died after falling ill in Barabanki while being taken to Lucknow jail from the hearing in a Faizabad court on May 18.

The government had on May 26 announced financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh to his family members.
