The Mumbai police have arrested accused persons in the gang rape of a minor girl last Friday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravinkumar Patil said, “ We have arrested three of the main accused involved in the crime from Diva, where they were hiding after commiting the crime, Wasim Hafeez Sayyed (23), Surya Selvan Pillai (19) Badolal Vishwakarma Kalwa (19) were arrested on Monday morning by our officers,” said Patil. Diva is about 33 km from Goregaon closer to Thane city. The three accused were produced before a local court which has remanded them to police custody till November 12.
Patil added that the police are still making efforts to trace three others Afzal Asghar Khan, Arjun Pillai and Rahul Bairagi who were also involved in the sexual assault of the girl. However sources in the police said that these three were also in custody and their arrests would be officially announced soon.
Patil said that the girl was acquainted with Rahul and Arjun who had called the victim on the fateful night of November 1 on occasion of Diwali. She was led to to a secluded spot, assaulted, threatened, beer forced down her throat and violated by four of the six. The police said their investigations have revealed that while forcing the beer down the girl’s throat they had also slipped in a pill. Officials said that they would be investigating what kind of pill was given to the girl.
Police officials said that they are also simultaneously conducting an internal probe into the grievance of the victim’s brother that the Dindoshi police officials did not take down his sister's FIR when she first approached the police a day after the alleged incident.
