Beauty queen's tiara found fake

A day after Mumbai Customs seized the bejewelled crown of Asia Pacific pageant Srishti Rana for not paying duty, it was on Thursday revealed that the tiara, including the diamonds and gems, was fake.

It came to light after the Customs officials approached an official valuer to determine the value of the diamonds studded to the crown.

Srishti was on Wednesday stopped by Mumbai Airport Customs officials for not paying duty on the crown, as it was allegedly studded with diamonds and jewels.

She was, however, allowed to wear the tiara for a while in front of mediapersons. The crown was later given back to the officials to determine the duty to be paid on it after examining the value of jewels.   The official valuer found that the tiara was made of brass metal and featured mere glass pieces. Following the report, Customs officials have decided to release the crown back to Srishti.
