Mulayam Singh Yadav hints at new political alignment

Lashing out at the communal forces “bent on vitiating the atmosphere across the country,” SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday, while steering clear of criticising  the Congress, hinted at the possibility of a new political alignment taking shape in the country in the coming days.

Addressing a public meeting at the launch of his dream project to have a Lion Safari in his home town of Etawah, which was also attended by Chief Minister Akhilesh Singh, Mulayam said that he would take part in a rally organised by the CPM-led Left in Delhi on November 30.

According to the veteran socialist, the outcome of the 2014 Parliamentary elections had an added significance since the nefarious communal outfits were raising their head again and had to be crushed at any cost. Continuing in the same vein, Mulayam said the LS polls would witness a fight between the communal forces and the secular parties.

Meanwhile, the SP chief’s decision to join the Left rally is likely to effect a major change in the political equations.

And it assumes considerable significance against the backdrop of CPM chief Prakash Karat’s recent statement that he was not averse to joining the secular parties and that the Marxists would do anything to halt the march of communal forces like the BJP.

Incidentally, Karat had met Mulayam only last week at which the two reportedly explored the possibility of setting up a secular front.

Rather significantly, the restraint shown by the SP chief in not criticising the Congress was in sharp contrast to his attack on the erstwhile BSP Government in UP.

And he accused the previous Mayawati administration of squandering public money on statues and public parks, while the SP Government was utilising the funds for the state’s development and progress.

Mulayam also urged the CM to crush the communal forces.”Whenever there is an SP Government in the state, the communal and fascist forces resurface and try to poison the atmosphere . You should not tolerate them,” he said.
